Applications for OSG

These drills are ideal for high-volume production environments where stable operation is essential. They excel in machining difficult-to-cut materials such as stainless steel and titanium alloys, which are commonly used in automotive and aerospace components.

In metal drilling, two major factors that threaten tool life and machining quality are heat concentrated at the cutting edge and chips that are difficult to evacuate. Many OSG solid carbide drill models are available with through-coolant capabilities, effectively addressing both heat generation and chip evacuation.

Through-coolant systems deliver coolant directly to the cutting edge—the main source of heat—providing efficient cooling and reducing thermal damage to the tool. At the same time, internal coolant pressure helps eject chips smoothly from the hole, significantly lowering the risk of clogging.

*Results may vary depending on the product and machining conditions, including spindle speed, feed rate, coolant supply, and machine rigidity.

AD/ADO Series

Overview

This is OSG’s core lineup of solid carbide drills, designed for versatile, stable performance across a wide range of materials.

These drills combine several advanced features, including EgiAs coating for improved wear and heat resistance, and specialized point geometries such as the R-gash and wave cutting edge, which divide and distribute the contact area during cutting.
Together, these features provide stable performance across a wide range of materials.

The EgiAs coating helps protect the cutting edge from wear, even when machining materials that tend to generate high heat.
The R-gash and wave cutting edge designs enable stable drilling in both hard steels and softer materials like aluminum.

The lineup includes the simple AD series without internal coolant and the ADO series with through-coolant capability.
The ADO series is available in lengths from 3×D to 50×D, making it suitable for deep hole drilling.

Overview

This solid carbide drill features a three-flute design with internal coolant holes, engineered for high-efficiency machining.
Its R-gash point geometry offers low thrust comparable to two-flute drills, while reliably breaking chips into smaller, consistent shapes.

The enlarged chip pockets ensure smooth chip evacuation—even with fine chips—minimizing chip entanglement during deep hole drilling or under poor evacuation conditions, and enabling high-feed machining.

It is suitable for a wide range of materials, from low- to high-carbon steels, alloy steels, and cast iron, with select models also capable of machining titanium alloys.
The lineup supports drilling depths from 3×D to 5×D.

Compatible Materials

  • Mild steel, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel
  • Alloy steel, tempered steel, hardened steel (45–50 HRC)
  • Cast iron, ductile cast iron
  • Titanium alloys

Lineup

  • Lineup
    • 3D(ADO-TRS-3D): Ø3.0mm - 20.0mm(approx.0.118inch - 0.787inch)
    • 5D(ADO-TRS-5D): Ø3.0mm - 20.0mm(approx.0.118inch - 0.787inch)

ADO-SUS

Overview

This drill is specifically designed to address the unique challenges of machining stainless steel and titanium alloys.

Its "MEGA COOLER" oil hole system increases coolant flow and velocity, effectively removing heat from the cutting zone. A sharp cutting edge and chip-breaking flute geometry help suppress work hardening and welding.

The ADO-SUS also features a specialized margin design and WXL coating, which offers excellent anti-adhesion properties—both of which contribute to stable, reliable machining.

The standard lineup covers drilling depths from 3×D to 8×D.

Compatible Materials

  • Low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel
  • Alloy steel, stainless steel
  • Cast iron, ductile cast iron
  • Copper alloys, cast aluminum alloys
  • Titanium alloys, magnesium alloys
